Photography And Facebook
January 24, 2009 by alphaem
I just got back from Florida the other day, I stayed at a place called "The Beachcomber" that had a little beach bar out back called "Jimmy B's. Every day of the week they have two different bands that play music until late into the night.
The bands are all different and they are all very good and they all have their own following, who along with the people that happen to show up all have a great time and appreciate the music.
While I sat there and listened to them and watched what went on, I couldn't help but compare music and photography. I saw how much they were enjoying what they were doing and thought how lucky I was to have discovered photography and love it the way they were loving the music. I have really been active and taking lots of photos lately, but this got me thinking that I want to do even more.
I thought how just about everyone has a digital camera now, and how after they take their pictures they are always looking at the display in the back and getting immediate satisfaction. Wow, how photography has evolved. We will have operated our photography studio for 30 years on February 6, 2009. We have spent most of that time photographing with film and processed most of our own film and prints. And it was amazing, we did and saw things that not many people at 9-5 jobs get to see or do, so not long ago I thought the best was behind us.
But digital photography, photoshop, and access to the internet has made things so much better. In May an internet marketer by the name of "John Reese" whose material I had been studying, sent out an e-mail about a social site called "Facebook". He told us to sign up and get some friends and form a group about what you are passionate about. He said it would be great, he was right.
So I did, and naturally I formed a group about photography, "photography and photoshop", thinking that it would be a little group that I would start, and every now and then something might go on within the group. That was in May, now as I write about this group in January, the group has grown to over 4,500 members from all over the world.
This group is amazing, they have added almost 3000 of their photographs to share with members of the group, and the group always comments with positive feedback, I have not seen a negative comment yet. They have contributed videos, their expertise, and forgot about politics and the things that are not so great in the economy to talk about and enjoy their craft of photography.
I'm back home from Florida now and working harder than ever (but when you love it , it's not work) to learn and share all I can about photography and photoshop. It's great to love something as much as I and the members of our group love photography, and the musicians at Jimmy B's love their music. It's a good place to lose yourself in good times and when its not so good, and Facebook is a great place to share the passion.
